How to apply for a card
Fort Smith residents are eligible for a free library
card. To apply, please bring proof of your current
Fort Smith address to any library location. Library
cards are available for children age 5 and older.
A parent/guardian’s signature is required for all children
under the age of 16.
People who live out of town but own property
in Fort Smith are eligible for a free card. Please
present your tax collector receipt, tax statement,
or mortgage papers to apply for your card.
The Fort Smith Public Library is supported by the
property taxes of the citizens of Fort Smith. Anyone
living outside the city limits may purchase a card for
an annual fee of $35.
Library cards with limited privileges may be issued
to customers who are currently without a residence
or living or working in Fort Smith on a temporary basis.

UA Fort Smith students and faculty may use a current
semester UAFS ID to check out materials at any Fort
Smith Public Library location. Fort Smith Public Library
cards are accepted at the Boreham Library on
the UAFS campus.
There is a $2 charge to replace a lost or stolen card.
Books, audiobooks, and magazines are checked
out for a two-week period (except for new books
labeled 7-Day which are checked out for one
week). Videos and DVDs are checked out for 7
days except for some educational videos which
check out for 14 days. The maximum number of
items that may be checked out is 25 per card.
There is a limit of six videotapes, six DVDs, six
CDs, and six audiobooks per card.
Library materials may be renewed twice, as long
as they are not on hold for another customer. Renewals
can be made in person, over the phone, or
online with a PIN number. Please request a PIN
number for online account access when you are at
Meeting rooms are available at all library locations
for meetings or programs of an educational, cultural,
or civic nature. Only Library-sponsored or cosponsored
meetings may involve the sale of items,
fundraising activities, or solicitation of donations.
Events of a strictly social nature such as receptions,
parties, weddings, and showers are not
permitted. Businesses may use meeting rooms for
not-for-profit activities. Programs involving the sale,
advertisement, or promotion of commercial products
or services are prohibited. Any organization or
group wishing to use a meeting room must complete
an Application for Meeting Room Use and
receive approval prior to the use of a meeting

Rooms for individuals or small groups are available on a

Faxes may be sent and received at all library locations.
The charge is $2 for the first page, and $1
for subsequent pages.
Notary service is available at all library locations.
The charge is $2 per stamp, cash only. Current
photo identification of the signer is required. Please
call ahead to assure availability of the notary.
Visit Dewey’s Café at the Main Library
for your favorite beverages,
snacks, and daily specials. Dewey’s
Café also offers catering services.
All café purchases support the Fort
Smith Public Library.
Computers & Wi-Fi
Free Wi-Fi access is available at all library locations.
Internet computers are available on a firstcome,
first-serve basis; there is a charge of $3 per
session for those without a Fort Smith Public Library
card in good standing. 15-minute guest Internet
computers and word processing computers are
available free of charge at all locations.
